The village of Coal City’s Park Board will sponsor its first “Coal City Face-off” pond hockey tournament.
The tournament was initiated by a local hockey player, Tyler Valiente, who approached the park board to bring ice skating and hockey to the community. Tyler’s passion for hockey convinced the board to let him build an ice rink last year.
This year, Tyler requested to coordinate Coal City’s first pond hockey tournament.
Limited to 10 teams, the first face-off will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 11 at Lion’s Park.
Play continues at 11 a.m. Jan. 12, and the single-elimination tournament begins at 2 p.m. Each team is guaranteed three games.
The entry fee is $250 per team and registration forms can be obtained at www.coalcity-il.com, or at Village Hall, 515 S. Broadway.
Concessions, food and beverages will be available at the Lion’s Club with all proceeds going to benefit the city parks. D Construction will sponsor the warm up tent for the players.
