Adult and children’s flu vaccine: From 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, the Will County Health Department Immunization Clinic is offering walk-in seasonal flu vaccinations for adults and children at its 1106 Neal Ave. site in Joliet. Walk-in shots are available. Vaccine is also available from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and 1 to 6 p.m. Fridays except the fourth Friday of the month. Flu vaccine is also available by appointment at health department office locations in Bolingbrook (323 Quadrangle) and University Park (44 Town Center). To schedule an appointment, call 815-740-8143. The seasonal flu vaccine is available people 6 months old and older. Adult flu shots cost $30, and the vaccine for children costs $16.75. No one will be turned away due to a true inability to pay. Medicare Part B will cover vaccine costs and Medicaid is accepted. Pregnant women must present with a written order from their OB physician.
Jan. 10, 17 and 24
Prepared childbirth class: 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 10, 17 and 24, Silver Cross Hospital, Pavilion A, Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Participants will receive instruction from a registered nurse on breathing, relaxation and floor-exercise techniques. She will also review the labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum processes. Cost is $75.

Lower back pain screening: On Jan. 15, individuals experiencing aches, pain, spasms, stiffness or weakness of the lower back are invited to attend a free screening at Silver Cross Health Center, 12701 W. 143rd St., Homer Glen. Screenings will be performed by a physical therapist with The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC). Call 815-300-6288 to schedule an appointment.

Walk with a doc program: 6:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Meet at the Springfield entrance of Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. Get the day started on the right foot with a 1- to 2-mile walk around the Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center campus. Join cardiologist Dennis Killian for this free health program.
Silver Cross weight-loss surgery program: Looking to lose weight this year? Silver Cross Hospital is offering Obesity and Your Health: Is Weight Loss Surgery Right for You? with Drs. Christopher Joyce and Brian Lahmann, experienced gastric bypass surgeons. The program is held every Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. in the Specialty Care Pavilion on the Silver Cross Hospital Campus, 1300 Copperfield Ave., Joliet. Participants will learn about the advantages and risks of traditional and laparoscopic bariatric weight loss surgery, find out who is a candidate for the procedure and hear from area patients about their experiences. Silver Cross has been named as Bariatric Center of Excellence by the American Society of Bariatric Surgery and a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery. Joint tune-up/arthritis program: 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for seniors at Challenge Fitness Pool, 2021 S. Lawrence Ave. in Lockport. Program is geared for those people suffering from arthritis or who need physical rehab in warm water. Program is included in the Challenge Fitness Premium Membership and free for SilverSneakers.
