A Darien woman was killed and her husband injured in a traffic crash near Lemont early Monday as the husband was driving her to her job at a Blue Island hospital.
Antonia Lin, 74, died following the 6:13 a.m. crash in the southbound lanes of Route 83 at 107th Street, authorities said.
Her husband was driving when their Toyota Camry rear-ended a truck just before a bridge crossing the Cal-Sag Channel, Cook County Sheriff’s office spokesman Frank Bilecki said.
He was driving her to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island where she worked, Bilecki said. It wasn’t immediately known what her occupation was.
Authorities are still investigating what caused the crash. However, Bileski said the Camry was not speeding, and the driver may not have seen traffic stopped ahead of them because of an elevation in the roadway.
The driver, 78, was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox for minor injuries, and was also cited for failing to yield, Bilecki said.
Paramedics took Lin to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she died about an hour after the crash, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
