Focus on school safety
BOLINGBROOK — As Valley View School District re-examines its security procedures in the wake of the elementary school tragedy in Connecticut, district officials are inviting community members to become a part of the VVSD School Safety Committee.
The committee meets from 5 to 6 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month in the Bolingbrook High School library. The next meeting is Jan. 16.

Collecting Christmas trees
JOLIET — The city and Waste Management announced for those who have a real Christmas tree, set it out at your normal pickup location (curb or alley) on your regular trash day for pick up.
Christmas trees will be collected until Jan. 31.
