Shorewood names acting village clerk

Updated: February 11, 2013 6:14AM

SHOREWOOD — The village board Tuesday named Toni Dulny, village executive assistant, as acting village clerk until the April election.

Dulny has routinely filled the role when the late Clerk Julia Russell was unable to attend a meeting. Russell died Nov. 22.

A new clerk will be elected April 9. Only one candidate, Tracy Ragusa, will appear on the ballot. Ragusa is Mayor Richard Chapman’s daughter.

Meanwhile, Trustee Gary Fitzgerald urged the board to consider changing the clerk’s office to a staff position.

Chapman said eliminating the clerk as an elected position would require a referendum, which wouldn’t be able to appear on a ballot until November 2014.
