It may be cold outside, but the Plainfield Village Board had warm thoughts of summer breezes on Monday.
The board approved road closures and the use of village-owned property for the popular Plainfield Fest from July 19 to July 21 in downtown Plainfield. The summer venue, which features food booths, games for kids and music acts, will be sponsored by the Plainfield Riverfront Foundation.
“For 2013, the foundation proposes to keep the event essentially the same as it was in 2012, including the same duration and general fest layout,” planner Jonathan Proulx said.
Roads will be closed from 6 p.m. July 18 through midnight July 21.
Closures include Lockport Street from Fox River Street to Route 59; DesPlaines Street from the alley north of Lockport Street extending south to Ottawa Street; and Chicago Street between Fox River Street and generally the midpoint between Des Plaines and Illinois streets. During the fest, Lockport Street between James and Fox River streets will be open to eastbound traffic.
Additionally, the board granted the foundation’s request to use the village-owned parking lot south of Lockport Street and west of DesPlaines Street from July 19 to 21.
Proulx said the event is not only a popular attraction for residents, but it also generates much-needed revenue for the foundation’s efforts to develop the riverfront. He told the board that last year’s event generated more than $70,000 in net income.
