Public meeting seeks to end gun violence

JOLIET — A meeting to discuss ways to end gun violence will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church, 337 S. Ottawa St.

The goal of the meeting is to force action on proposals to end the violence, said Pamela Fort, community organizer.

Financing college event Jan. 24

ROMEOVILLE — A free event on financing college, sponsored by state Rep. Emily McAsey, D-Lockport, and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 24 at the White Oak Romeoville Branch Library, 201 W. Normantown Road.

Commission representatives will present information on grants, scholarships and other tuition assistance programs. The presentation will include tips for completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
