50 years ago, 1963

Less than 24 hours after the annexation of a portion of the Ingalls Park subdivision, police responded to their first call into the area. An emergency call reported that a car crashed into a fence at the west side of the Culbertson school yard. The car also did considerable damage to the Frank E. Larsen yard, 1511 E. Washington St.

25 years ago, 1988

State Rep. LeRoy Van Duyne, D-Joliet, wants to know what’s happened to the idea for an interchange at Interstate 80 and Houbolt Road. City officials are wondering the same thing because the interchange could be the key to opening up that area. Van Duyne said the interchange was on Gov. James Thompson’s list of Build Illinois projects.
