JOLIET -- Police say a 14-year-old girl gave the prescription painkiller oxycontin to two of her classmates Tuesday at Troy Middle School.
Cmdr. Al Roechner said administrators called around 1:20 p.m. for an officer to come to the school, 5800 Theodore St., after a 13-year-old student told a counselor another student had given her what she thought was aspirin but then laughed after doing so.
The same girl had given another pill to a 14-year-old girl, but that girl threw it in the trash,” Roechner said.
The girl said a high school student had given her the drugs a few days earlier, and said she had taken three pills Tuesday, Roechner said. A half pill was also found in a garbage can by school staff, Roechner said.
All three teens were taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center as a precaution. After being released, the 14-year-old was charged with drug possession and taken to the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
