Body pulled from Des Plaines River

Joliet firefighters used a boat Friday afternoon to remove a man’s body from the Des Plaines River.
A passer-by walking on the McDonough Street bridge saw the body around 12:40 p.m. and knocked on a door to tell the bridgetender, Police Cmdr. Al Roechner said.
The bridge was closed to traffic as firefighters used a boat to reach the body which was floating near the east river wall in the choppy water. After the body was pulled against the side of the boat, it was covered with an orange blanket.
The boat returned to the northeast side of the bridge where one firefighter wearing an immersion suit dove in to raise the body to the street above.
The man was wearing a black coat, blue jeans and sneakers.
His identity had not been confirmed Friday evening, but he is believed to be a Joliet man who was reported missing late last month. Police said that subject had been despondent after losing his house to foreclosure.
