Work planned on Troy school

Kenneth Surma, director of operations, informed the Troy School Board that this summer Troy Shorewood Elementary School will have major construction taking place, beginning June 10 with a completion date of Aug. 2.
R.L. Sohol will be the general contractor of the project that will include electrical and HVAC work.
It also was reported that in spring, the district is required to bid its food service program according to Illinois State Board of Education rules.
Surma said he must start the process in the next few weeks if he expects to bring the bids to the board in May.
In other business, the board:
Appointed Kathryn Drinka as an eighth-grade communication arts teacher. Drinka had taught in the district for three years before leaving at the end of the 2011-12 school year because of a relocation.
Reminded that the next regular board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 20.
