White named Minooka officer of year

When Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer announced Officer Andrea White as the department’s Officer of the Year, he said it wasn’t about getting the most arrests.
“We choose an individual who shows dedication to the mission of our police department and the village and sets an example for others,” Meyer said.
White, who grew up in Dwight, has been with the department for five years. Until May 2012 she had spent two years as a school resource officer at Minooka High School. She most recently was assigned to the Will County Gang Suppression Unit.
In addition to her duties as a police officer, she volunteers time for Special Olympics and works with youth in the department’s Cadet Program.
“She was the first one to raise her hand to be an adviser,” Meyer said.
White accepted the honor and a plaque from Village President Pat Brennan with her parents Ken and Julie White proudly looking on.
“I am happy to have the opportunity to work for a great department,” White said, “and to be able to do the gang suppression program.”
Meyer lauded White’s commitment to traffic safety and community involvement.
“She always comes to work with a positive attitude,” Meyer said. “That’s one of the things that put her above everyone else.”
