Program to explore ‘fracking’

Updated: March 9, 2013 6:04AM

PLAINFIELD — Is “fracking” a breakthrough technology that will help our country achieve energy independence or is it a highly destructive practice with severe, long-term environmental consequences?

The Green Village Lecture Series will offer a free screening of the documentary “Gasland” at 7 p.m. Monday at the Plainfield Public Library.

Hydraulic fracturing — commonly referred to as “fracking” — is the practice of injecting fluid into underground rock formations to open up cracks in the formations to allow more oil and gas to be recovered.
