Illinois Kids Count report to be released

JOLIET — Findings from the Illinois Kids Count 2013 report will be presented at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Joliet Public Library, 150 N. Ottawa St.

The report, “Moving Policy, Moving Progress,” focuses on achievements and challenges in early childhood education, health care coverage, access to child care services and other policy areas.

Panel will include R. Dale Evans, Housing Authority of Joliet; Shawn Walsh, assistant regional superintendent for the Will County Regional Office of Education; Christine Bzdon, executive director, and Amy Emerson, director of Family Services, at Childcare Resource and Referral; and Mark McHugh, executive director at One Hope United.

Tax return help for low-income residents

JOLIET — The Will County Center for Community Concerns will help low-income residents with their tax preparation, free of charge.

Appointments for basic tax returns will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
