A political action committee financed by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has launched a TV commercial blitz attacking 2nd Congressional District candidate Debbie Halvorson for her views on guns.
“We feel Debbie Halvorson’s positions are out of step with mainstream America and hope our commercials on cable and other broadcast outlets will educate people,” said Stevan Friedman, a spokesman for Independence USA PAC.
“Former Rep. Halvorson has positions on gun safety that defy common sense. She opposes bans on assault weapons and restricting magazine rounds and carrying concealed weapons across state lines.”
Halvorson did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment.
The commercials blasting Halvorson were aired Wednesday morning during local newscasts on NBC and other stations.
Friedman refused to say how much the PAC was planning to spend on the anti-Halvorson commercials or how long they would run.
The political action committee spent millions of dollars throughout the country during the November congressional elections.
“Mayor Bloomberg has said he supports several basic issues and that includes educating the public about gun safety, the environment and public education,” Friedman said.
“We just want folks to be educated on what her positions are and have been.”
