Convicted sex offender arrested on gun charge

JOLIET — Police arrested a reputed gang member and a convicted sex offender after reportedly finding five guns during a search Wednesday morning.
Cmdr. Brian Benton said police obtained a warrant for 354 Wilson Ave. after receiving information Marquell D. Franklin, 21, had a firearm.
Franklin has two previous arrests for carrying guns.
Officers reportedly found one gun on Franklin and four more inside the house. They also found Franklin’s friend Derrick T. Bailey, 22, was staying there, Benton said.
Bailey had been convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 12-year-old when he was 17 and is listed as a sexual predator, according to the state police.
Franklin was booked into the county jail on charges of being an armed habitual criminal, unlawful use of a weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm. His bond has been set at $200,000.
Bailey was booked into the county jail on three counts of failing to comply with the state’s sex offender registry requirements.
15 cars vandalized
JOLIET — Fifteen cars had windows broken out Wednesday night.
Around 11 p.m. police found damaged vehicles in the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of South May Street, Marion Street, Park Avenue, Wheeler Avenue, Jasper Street, O’Neill Street, Dwight Avenue and South Reed Street.
Gas station robbed at gunpoint
JOLIET — An armed man robbed a gas station around 3 a.m. Thursday.
According to reports, the man came into Citgo, 334 Collins St., showed the clerk a handgun and demanded money.
After taking the cash the robber fled on foot. no one was injured.
None injured in condo fire
PLAINFIELD — No one was injured in a condo fire Wednesday night.
Around 9 p.m. a couple heard smoke detectors going off in the four-unit building in the 22800 block of Harbor Lane.
Deputy Chief Jon Stratton said firefighters arrive to find flames in the ceiling near a gas fireplace.
The fire caused an estimated $60,000 in damage.

Robert M. Zabel: 19, of 22213 S. Gawain Drive in Shorewood, was arrested by Joliet police Sunday on a charge of drug possession.
Gregory A. Chapman: 49, of 11 Markest St. in Momence, was arrested by sheriff’s police Sunday on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, endangering the life or health of a child and no insurance.
Julio C. Rodriguez: 30, of 1407 Burry St. in Joliet, was arrested by Joliet police Sunday on a charge of drug possession.
John C. Foster: 31, of 922 West Park Ave. in Joliet, was arrested by Joliet police Sunday on charges of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of drugs.
Taryn A. Santefort: 22, of 1150 Hickory Creek Drive in New Lenox, was arrested by Frankfort police Sunday on charges of drug possession, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
