50 years ago, 1963

Thirty students from the College of St. Francis will participate in a model United Nations Assembly and Security Council at St. Joseph’s College in Indiana. The project is under the direction of president of the International Relations Club at the college. Topics to be discussed during the mock sessions include the admittance of Red China to the United Nations and disputed UNESCO projects such as the promulgation of birth control methods.

25 years ago, 1988

Diana Schmitt has resigned her position as Shorewood village clerk. Schmitt, who has served as village clerk for eight years, resigned over a controversy over board control of the minutes. Schmitt said a motion approved by the board Feb. 9 clearly states that the board intends to control what is put in the minutes book. “I feel strongly that this is in direct conflict with the statutory duties and responsibilities of the office of village clerk,” she said.
