50 years ago, 1963

Joliet’s next mayor will be either Ned Grabavoy, 41, or Maurice Berlinsky, 48. They were the two candidates nominated from a field of seven in the primary. The six nominated for the three councilman seats were Norman A. Keck, John R. Barney, E.E. “Jim” Garrison, William E. Meade, Richard F. Curran and Beryle K. Longman.

25 years ago, 1988

Free medical care for the indigent will begin March 8 with some 50 Will County doctors providing services voluntarily and without pay. Appointments can be made for the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic, 309 N. Eastern Ave. Frank Laule, president of the clinic board, said patients will be asked to make a $5 donation per visit, if possible. The clinic is in the former St. Mary Carmelite School, where The Spanish Center now is located.
