Plainfield OKs more work on Route 59 study

Recognizing the value of a Route 59 study, the Plainfield Village Board on Monday approved an amendment to the letter of agreement between the village and Civic Artworks authorizing a revised total of $5,900.
Village planner Michael Garrigan reminded the trustees that they approved $5,000 in July 2013 and $2,500 was tendered for Civic Artworks for their work on Phase I and II of the study. Phase I and II included the creation of a website for the study, facilitating the discussion on the site and preparation of a number of figure maps and conceptual plans related to the study.
The urban design firm is seeking residents’ input in the planning and design of the corridor.
“Civic Artworks is requesting to retain the services of David Carrico, who is a noted architect and illustrator to complete the final three dimensional drawings for the Vision for Division (Route 59) study,” Garrigan said.
He said Carrico has worked with numerous prominent design firms.
“Carrico Illustration would charge $3,400 for their professional services, which is $900 over the estimated $2,500 originally estimated by Civic Artworks in their original letter of agreement,” Garrigan said.
When Trustee Bill Lamb asked how Carrico’s architectural drawings will be used, Garrigan replied that it will be posted on the Internet, as well as possibly displayed at Plainfield Village Hall.
At issue for the village is whether the stretch of Route 59 that runs through downtown should remain a business transition-district, which converts homes to low-traffic businesses like financial planning or dentist offices, or become home to high-traffic commercial developments.
The study likely won’t be completed until spring, Garrigan said.
