Parent group wants to resurrect Minooka homecoming parade

A group of parents of Minooka High School students want the school to bring back the Homecoming parade.
Patty Klank recently asked the school board to consider her official request to include a parade to Homecoming events for 2013.
“We want to increase a sense of school pride and bring back some of the old traditions,” Klank said.
There are about 40 parents who are backing the change. They don’t want to continue working on the parade without approval from the board, Klank said.
The group’s proposal is to have the parade on the morning of Sept. 21, the Saturday prior to Homecoming. It would kick off the week’s events and encourage more participation in the freshman football game later that day.
The parade lineup would include athletes, clubs organizations and bands from the high school as well as the three feeder schools. There would be no cost to the district, Klank said.
Board President Chris Kobe said the request had to follow procedure, including a committee review of a written proposal before a recommendation goes to the full board.
Klank has met with Minooka Village President Pat Brennan and Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer. Brennan has sent a letter to the board showing his support.
According to paperwork obtained by Klank, the last parade appears to have been in 2004.
