Spanish Community Center to honor three

JOLIET — The Spanish Community Center will honor two community members and a local business for their dedication and service in the center’s annual awards ceremony and Fiesta at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the center, 309 N. Eastern Ave.

The center will honor Margarita Montoya Rodriguez, George Hernandez and Certified Warehouse Foods.

The night will include entertainment by Ballet Folklorico Tepeyac and a buffet dinner from Taquerias Atotonilco.

Tickets cost $30 per person or $50 per couple. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Tornado drill postponed

Due to the winter storm Tuesday, the National Weather Service postponed the annual Illinois Statewide Tornado Drill until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Normally, the drill coincides with the monthly testing of outdoor warning sirens.

With that said, residents should be aware that some communities sounded their sirens as usual on Tuesday, while others may sound their sirens Wednesday.

When you hear an outdoor warning siren, go indoors and tune your radio to one of the Emergency Alert Stations. In Will County, that includes: WJOL 1340AM, WCCQ 98.3FM, WSSR 96.7FM and WRXQ 100.7FM.
