Incumbent Morris Alderman Bill Martin was able to retain his seat by beating his challenger in the Republican primary Tuesday.
Martin received about 55 percent of the votes with all precincts in the 4th Ward reporting. His opponent, newcomer Lori Werden, received about 45 percent of the votes.
Martin will be unopposed for the general election April 9.
Martin, a lifetime Morris resident, has been on the city council for more than five years. In 2008 he was appointed by Mayor Richard Kopczick to fill the vacated seat of Alderwoman Martha Shugart, who had moved out of the ward. He then ran unopposed in 2009 for his council seat.
