Sheriff group to hand out scholarships

The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association announced it will award more than $53,000 in college scholarships throughout the state of Illinois to students wishing to pursue higher education in the 2013-2014 academic year.

The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books and fees only, and the student must be enrolled at a certified institution of higher learning in Illinois.

Grundy County Sheriff Kevin Callahan will award two $500 scholarships to Grundy County students.

Applications are available at the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office or online at www.ilsheriff.org. Students must complete the application, answer the essay question and return all documents in the application packet to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office at 111 E. Illinois Ave., Morris, by March 15.

For an application to be considered, it must be postmarked no later than that date.
