Bail was set Monday at $100,000 for a New Lenox man charged last week with aggravated DUI in a Sept. 2 crash in McHenry County that killed a 4-year-old girl, authorities said.
After a five-month investigation, Leonardo R. Martinez, 43, of the 600 block of Edgewater Court, was charged with one felony count of aggravated DUI and two misdemeanor counts of DUI, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s office. Martinez also received citations for failing to stop at a stop sign and failure to use due care, police said.
Martinez, who posted bond, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s office website, is next due in court in Woodstock on March 20.
Martinez was driving a 2011 Infiniti QX56 south on Millstream Road in unincorporated Seneca Township when the car collided with a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that was westbound on Route 176, police said.
The Infiniti failed to stop for a stop sign, and both vehicles exited the roadway and struck a guardrail before coming to a stop, police said.
The 4-year-old girl was ejected from the Jeep and was pronounced dead on arrival at Centegra Medical Center in Woodstock, police said. The 30-year-old driver of the Jeep refused treatment, while a 33-year-old woman and 1-year-old child in the Jeep were treated at Centegra for minor injuries.
Martinez and his 34-year-old female passenger were also taken to Centegra with minor injuries.
It is unknown if any occupants were wearing seat belts, police said.
