Channahon police say a convicted sex offender was trading child pornography online before his arrest Monday.
Douglas G. Pettit, 55, was arrested while officers used a search warrant to get into his apartment at 734 E. Main St. in Morris, Channahon Detective Adam Bogart said.
In October, Bogart learned pictures and videos containing known child porn images were being traded from an online address matched to Pettit’s registration, he said. The investigation continued with assistance from the Will County State’s Attorney’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Police seized computers and other digital equipment during Pettit’s arrest that contained child pornography, according to reports.
Bogart said it does not appear Pettit produced any of the illicit images, but asked anyone who had further information about Pettit’s alleged activities to call Bogart at 815-467-2112.
Pettit was booked into the Will County Jail on a charge of disseminating child pornography.
State records show Pettit was convicted of possessing child pornography in Cook County in 2009 and is considered a sexual predator.
