LOCKPORT — Police say a 35-year-old woman forced her way into an 82-year-old man’s house to rob him early Saturday.
Chief Dave Draksler said police were called about 4 a.m. to the 700 block of Clinton Street where the victim said he’d been woken up by someone trying to open his back door.
The man struggled with the woman before she knocked him to the floor, demanded money and ran off, Draksler said.
Police used the victim’s description of the intruder, searched the area and reviewed surveillance video from a nearby gas station to identify Dayna McCarter as a “person of interest,” Draksler said.
McCarter, of 205 Schorie Ave. in Joliet, was picked up by police Saturday afternoon and reportedly confessed to the break-in. She was booked into the county jail on charges of home invasion and residential burglary.
Wife saves man’s life
JOLIET — Firefighters credited a man’s wife with saving his life after he suffered a heart attack Thursday night.
Capt. Ron Fox said the 57-year-old Iowa man and his wife were visiting family about 9 p.m. when he collapsed in a house on International Way.
“(He had) no pulse, not breathing. She started CPR immediately, and we arrived four minutes later,” Fox said.
Firefighters used a defibrillator for the man’s pulse to return. He was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition Friday.
Fox expects the man’s wife will be recognized for her actions by the department in the near future.
