Kids get a chance to rule school

Updated: April 16, 2013 3:59PM

Maybe Peter Pan wouldn’t approve, but 14 children have won a chance to be the grownup — and in charge.

The New Lenox School District Foundation announced the winners to the Principal for a Day fundraiser contest. One student from each school will spend the day as principal, said Nancy Dye, the foundation’s board vice president and village trustee.

The foundation earned $3,200 from the fundraiser. The funds will be distributed to teacher grants. The deadline for a district staff member to submit an application is March 28.

Winners are Michael Myette and Caitlyn Parrish at Bentley, Claire Thormeyer and Noah Fyke at Cherry Hill, Arantxa Arredondo at Liberty, Taylor Harris at Martino, Omar Abushaqra at Nelson Prairie, Isabella Clutter at Nelson Ridge, Justin Frederiksen at Oakview, Nolan Barrett at Spencer Crossing, Claire Cahill at Spencer Pointe, Tatum Carter and Aidan DeCarlo at Spencer Trail, Bruno Butkus at Tyler, and Nick Evans at Haines.
