A five-alarm fire destroyed a large industrial building Wednesday night in Coal City.
The sprawling former warehouse at 235 E. Oak St. Operated as Club s2x in the early 2000s but had been subdivided into three businesses, including a concrete casting company.
Coal City firefighter Nick Doerfler said a passer-by saw flames coming from the building at 11:52 p.m. and called it in.
“Flames were coming through the roof with heavy fire in the back when crews arrived,” Doerfler said. “With the size of this fire it immediately became a defensive operation to keep it contained.”
Forty-five fire companies spent early Thursday battling the blaze.
No one was injured but the building is considered a total loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
