Braidwood mulls bus service to new veterans clinic

Braidwood American Legion Koca Post 39 Commander Jim Canup was happy as he reported on the opening of the Joliet Outpatient Clinic at 1201 Eagle St., Joliet, housed in the old Silver Cross Hospital.
Canup was instrumental in the effort to establish the veterans clinic.
Braidwood Mayor Bill Rulien said he is investigating the possibility of a Pace grant to fund a bus to give rides to the new clinic.
If the route is established, Canup said it might be a good idea to coordinate the arrival time of the new bus so that residents could, if needed, connect with the bus that will travel between the Joliet clinic and Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital.
Rulien is asking residents to give him feedback on the idea. Call City Hall at 815-458-2333.
In other action, the city council:
Approved a prevailing wage ordinance for contractors working on projects for the city.
Heard Rulien announce the first Braidwood Route 66 10K Run /5K Walk race slated for April 14. The event will benefit the Reed-Custer Field House. For information, contact Mary Beth Pressley at 815-458-2333, Ext. 209.
Learned the Braidwood Park District will sponsor a used oil collection from 8 a.m. to noon April 6 at the park maintenance building.
Heard the annual children’s Easter Egg Hunt begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at the south end of the Old Smokey City Park in the baseball fields. The rain date is March 30.
