Man charged for alleged home invasion, sex assault

BOLINGBROOK — Police say an Aurora teen forced his way into a girl’s house to sexually assault her last summer.
Zachary M. Holland, 18, turned himself in Wednesday morning after police obtained a warrant charging him with home invasion and aggravated criminal sexual assault for the July 30, 2012 incident, according to Lt. Mike Rompa.
Around 2:30 that morning a 17-year-old girl walked out of her downstairs bathroom and was grabbed from behind by an intruder.
“(He) forced her into the living room and attempted to assault her. She struggled as he began to strike her in the face while threatening to stab her,” Rompa said.
The girl continued fighting and fled upstairs to call the police as the man broke out a sliding glass door to escape from the back of the house.
The victim was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital for facial injuries. The case was assigned to detectives and evidence technicians processed the crime scene, Rompa said.
Those results reportedly led to Holland, of 1048 Faron Lane. He is being held at the Will County jail on $1 million bond.
Records show Naperville police arrested Holland on shoplifting charges the day after the attack.
Around 2 p.m. July 31, he was taken into custody for trying to steal items from Wal-Mart, 776 S. Route 59, police said. He was also charged with vandalism and marijuana possession.
In 2011, Holland spent three months in jail after being arrested by Naperville police on charges of theft and aggravated battery, records show.
