The Matteson man who authorities say killed a Joliet man last month pleaded not guilty in Will County court Friday morning.
Rueben W. Washington, 32, has been indicted on two counts of first degree murder for the shooting death of Antonio P. Tyler, 31.
Washington also faces one count of possession of a controlled substance.
Joliet police were called to an apartment at 110 N. Nicholson St. about 11 a.m. on March 30, where they found Tyler’s body.
After the shooting, a neighbor said Tyler was friends with the person who lives in the apartment and may have been followed to the building.
Tyler was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:45 p.m. that day.
Washington was arrested for Tyler’s murder on April 4 at a house near Marion Street and Hunter Avenue in Joliet.
Authorities believe Tyler may have been killed in a dispute over money.
Washington, who appeared in court Friday via a video link from the county jail, remains in custody on $3 million bail.
He is scheduled to appear in court again May 24.
