Bond was set at $3 million cash Saturday for a 22-year-old Romeoville man charged with the murder of a 17-year-old Thursday night after the two fought outside a Romeoville grocery store, according to the Will County state’s attorney’s office.
Police continue to investigate the incident during which Fabian Almodovar, of 1482 Windflower Court, allegedly stabbed Carlos Orozco, of Joliet.
Deputy Chief Steve Lucchesi said police were called at 8:43 p.m. after Almodovar and Orozco were fighting outside Jewel, 20 S. Weber Road.
Officers reportedly arrived to find Almodovar injured in a bathroom inside the store, while Orozco was laying in the parking lot.
Orozco was taken to Adventist where he was pronounced dead at 9:37 p.m. of multiple stab wounds, according to the Will County coroner’s office.
Almodovar was initially taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, but was later transferred to Adventist, police said.
“There was a preplanned meeting between them when a fight started,” Lucchesi said.
According to reports, Romeoville police arrested Almodovar on April 1 on charges of battery and domestic battery. He also spent five months in jail last year on identity theft and burglary charges.
