Veterans who have returned from Iraq and/or Afghanistan are invited to a free golf outing Sept. 6 at Broken Arrow Golf Club, 16325 W. Broken Arrow Drive, Lockport, hosted by the Lockport Veterans Commission.
The first 150 veterans to register will get a free round of golf, a steak/ribs/chicken dinner and prizes. Registration forms are due by Wednesday.
“We want to uplift their spirits. It’s our way of saying, ‘Thank you,’ ” commission chairman Gary Niehaus said. “I guess they are pretty good with a sand shot.”
This will be the second year for the Lockport Veterans Commission hosting the golf outing.
“It’s a nice event. The donations for raffle prizes have been unbelievable,” Niehaus said.
The golf outing has been funded by Kozol Bros. Inc., a Joliet-based beer distributor, as part of Miller High Life’s “Give a Veteran a Piece of the High Life” campaign. For every High Life bottle cap turned in, Miller Brewing Co. donates 10 cents toward High Life Experiences for returning veterans, which pays for veterans to attend concerts, sporting events and more.
Veterans must be at least 21 years old to participate in the golf outing. While the golf is for veterans only, their families are invited to join them for dinner.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Dinner with entertainment begins at 2:30 p.m.
