Two teens charged in New Lenox theft

NEW LENOX — Two teenagers were arrested early Monday after they were seen taking items from a house under construction, police said.
Residents of the 2000 block of Viewside Drive saw Brandon M. Mundinger, 19, of 14400 Keating Ave. in Crestwood, and Brett Strache, 17, of 700 W. Michigan Road, New Lenox, inside the house at 12:04 a.m., according to reports.
While investigating, an officer discovered that Mundinger and Strache did not have permission to be in the house nor to remove any items from it, police said.
Both were charged with theft and trespassing and were booked into the county jail. Strache also was charged with marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
NEW LENOX — A Joliet man was charged with kidnapping after allegedly refusing to surrender custody of his son Sunday.
The mother came into the police station about 4:20 p.m. to say Mark A. Cluts, 31, was refusing to turn the boy over and also had threatened her over the phone, according to police reports.
Cluts was located in Romeoville and the boy was turned over to his mother, reports said. Cluts, of 2403 Chestnut St., was booked into the county jail on a charge of kidnapping and was being held on $20,000 bail.
Crete Township crash
CRETE TOWNSHIP — Two people were seriously injured in a car crash Sunday. Will County Sheriff’s police said a westbound 1998 Ford F-150 driven by a 57-year-old Beecher man crossed over the center line of Exchange Street a quarter-mile east of Illinois 394 about 8:40 p.m.
The F-150 was struck on the passenger side by an eastbound 2003 Ford sedan driven by a 32-year-old Steger woman. The pickup truck spun across the roadway, and the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. He had life-threatening head injuries, police said.
The sedan went into a ditch. The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered a fractured hip and broken pelvis.
