Joliet man killed after van struck by dump truck

JOLIET — A Joliet man was killed Tuesday morning when a dump truck struck his van.
The driver was identified as Curtis H. Brown, 81, of Joliet, according to the Will County Coroner’s office.
The crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. at Laraway and Brandon roads.
Cmdr. Al Roechner said it appears the southbound van was stopped at the stop sign, but pulled out into the path of the westbound dump truck and was “T-boned.”
The van was not carrying any passengers.
The dump truck driver was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center with minor injuries, Roechner said.
The accident was still being investigated Tuesday.
Brown was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:17 a.m.
Joyce Brown said her husband was on his way to cook in the kitchen at the Stone City VFW Post when the accident occurred. Before retiring, Curtis Brown worked in the mills at Sheffield Steel.
Curtis Brown is survived by his wife of 60 years, two daughters and one granddaughter.
