Cops cracking down on drunk drivers
Lockport police will be increasing their efforts against drunk drivers and people not wearing seat belts between now and Labor Day, according to a press release.
Lockport police will conduct a “random roadside safety check” on Aug. 30 through Aug. 31 near the 700 block of State Street between 11:30 p.m. and 3:30 a.m., the release said.
The efforts are part of the “Drive Sober, or Get Pulled Over,” and “Click it or Ticket,” campaigns, the release said.
Lockport received a $26,000 reimbursement grant last year for extra traffic enforcement activity, the release said.
“This grant makes it possible to increase officers who are on the road looking for these types of violations at peal times throughout the summer,” Sgt. Brian Phelan said in the release. “The added officers help to add a layer of enforcement that makes the roads in the area safer to travel for everybody.”
