JOLIET — A Joliet man has been charged with aggravated domestic battery after he choked his pregnant girlfriend Tuesday because he was mad she had been out all day, police said.
Joliet Police Cmdr. Brian Benton said the 19-year-old woman returned about 8:30 p.m. to the 400 block of East Jackson Street, where Marcus T. Alexander, 29, was waiting.
“She said he was upset at her being gone all day and began yelling and then choking her. She was able to get away from him and text someone else who told her to call the police,” Benton said.
Officers arrived to find Alexander and the victim at her house. The woman had “marks on her neck” and is 71/2 months pregnant, Benton said.
Alexander, of 413 Oneida St., was arrested and booked into the Will County jail, where he was being held Thursday on $50,000 bail.
Alexander has been identified as a Vice Lords gang member to police officers and has several previous arrests.
In February 2007, he was trying to extort money as part of a “protection racket” when a bar manager notified police, reports said. Police stopped a Cadillac leaving the scene and Alexander dropped a 9 mm handgun as he ran from the vehicle before being captured, police said.
In March 2011, Alexander was arrested for allegedly obstructing police after a gang fight began at a downtown nightclub and spilled out into the street, where shots were fired.
In October 2012, Alexander was arrested after narcotics officers found 24 grams of marijuana in his pockets and 45 grams of cocaine under the siding outside his apartment on North Franklin Street, police said.
