New Lenox fire and police squads will compete in the fifth annual Guns n’ Hoses Charity softball game at 4 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Lions Den Fields, 520 S. Cedar Road.
The event is being held to raise money and collect food for the New Lenox Township food pantry.
The winning team gets a traveling trophy, but in each of the four previous matches, it hasn’t traveled much because it has been won by the police department each time.
Admission is free and open to the public, but donations of nonperishable food items will be accepted.
The event will also include a raffle between innings with various prizes.
Prior to the game, there will be a touch-a-truck session, and mascots such as McGruff and Sparky will be on hand to entertain the crowd.
A home run derby will be at 2:30 p.m. with police and firefighters squaring off against each other.
“We would love to see the stands filled with residents supporting the cause and cheering for their favorite team,” New Lenox Fire Protection District Chief Jon Mead said.
“Although we hope we finally get to take the trophy back to the fire district, we really want the food pantry to be the big winner,” he said.
