New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann, who’s also superintendent of Union School District 81, said he isn’t planning to change careers after starring in a new music video for the heavy metal band Fight or Flight.
The band’s first-ever video already has more than 111,000 hits on YouTube, (Fight or Flight The First of the Last) — likely due more to its popularity than the mayor’s acting debut.
Members of the band — some of whom live in the Southland — were familiar with the layout of the village hall and thought it would make a good setting for their first video.
“And they asked me to be in it,” Baldermann said. “I thought it would be something fun.”
In the 31/2-minute video featuring the band’s song “First of the Last,” Baldermann appears for about 90 seconds as the leader of a group of evil conspirators who want to control the world through vaccines, gun control, genetically modified food, depopulation and radio frequency identity chips.
They meet to plot their strategies in the New Lenox Village Hall boardroom, although the video makes no reference to the village. The video was filmed in May and released in June.
“It was quite a process,” Baldermann said, explaining it took 12 hours just to shoot his portion of the video.
“It was fascinating to see how it worked. I’m glad I’m not an actor. Doing the same thing over and over and showing the same level of enthusiasm is not something I want to do full time.”
The mayor is a music fan, although he said he does not regularly listen to heavy metal or subscribe to the content of the video.
“But it is something people are talking about,” he said. “It didn’t matter to me what the content was. I was happy to do it. It was something different to do.
“I did it just for the experience. They were really, really nice guys,” he said.
Fight or Flight is a new band started by two members of the heavy metal band Disturbed, Dan Donegan and Mike Wengren. They brought in Dan Chandler, Sean Corcoran and Jeremy Jayson and are touring with their new album, “A Life by Design.”
They will appear in concert Oct. 3 at Allstate Arena, according to their website.
Some of his Union School students who are fans of Disturbed were at village hall during the filming and were thrilled to meet and get autographs of the band members, Baldermann said.
