Plainfield police arrested three drunken drivers, wrote six citations for people illegally transporting alcohol and arrested five people on drug violations over the Labor Day weekend, according to a press release.
The department also wrote 81 tickets for people not wearing their seat belts and issued 13 citations for child passenger safety violations, according to the release.
Plainfield police were working with state and local law enforcement agencies as part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click it or Ticket” program. The weekend’s efforts included a roadside safety checkpoint with the state police on Saturday, which checked 399 vehicles, the release said.
NASCAR weekend coming
The Chicagoland Speedway will host a hauler parade on Sept. 12 in downtown Joliet. The parade kicks off the Speedway’s tripleheader weekend of NASCAR racing, which features the GEICO 400 on Sept. 15 — the first race in NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship.
Haulers will be parked at Hollywood Casino at 4 p.m. and the parade begins at 5. The parade route will travel east on Jefferson and make a left on Scott Street. The Speedway’s pace car and fire safety vehicles will lead the parade north on Scott Street, before making a left onto Jackson and then a left on Ottawa to head south to the Speedway.
The Speedway is encouraging fans to watch the parade at designated areas along the route. Those areas are: Hollywood Casino, McBrody’s Bar and Grill, the Joliet Historical Museum and the Joliet Public Library.
The parade is part of the Speedway’s Race Fan Rally.
