JOLIET — The husband of a Joliet Township trustee doused her with gasoline and threatened to set her ablaze during an argument Sunday at their home, police said.
Stephen J. Albert, 54, was charged with domestic battery, reckless conduct and assault after police were called about 1:15 p.m. to the house at 821 Kelly Ave., according to police Cmdr. Al Roechner.
He said Albert “threw gasoline” on his wife, Suzanne Adamic-Albert, and “throughout the garage and threatened to light them on fire.”
Albert took out a cigarette lighter but was restrained from igniting it by a nephew who was at the residence, according to police. They said the nephew detained Albert until officers arrived to arrest him.
Police said Albert was taken to Saint Joseph Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation.
Adamic-Albert did not require medical attention, according to police.
She has been a township trustee for more than four years.
