Quick News: Former USF dean named Veteran of the Month

A recently retired dean at the University of St. Francis in Joliet is slated to be named the state’s Veteran of the Month for September on Thursday.
Michael V. LaRocca, who was dean of the College of Business and Health Administration, is to receive the honor at 10 a.m. at Veteran of Foreign Wars Stempien Post 8821, 5104 S. Archer Ave., Chicago.
LaRocca, a Marine during the Vietnam War, had a 33-year career at USF. He has been honored with academic awards, including the USF “Innovation Award” in 2005; a “Special and Salutory Award” in 2001 for the use of technology in teaching; and the USF “Excellence in Teaching and Campus Leadership Award” in 1993.
The Veteran of the Month honor is presented by the Illinois Department of Veterans.
LaRocca, a Chicago resident, was nominated by Bruce Foote, an Army veteran and executive director of financial aid services at USF.
