The closing of the Jefferson Street bridge in downtown Joliet has been rescheduled for Sept. 30.
The Illinois Department of Transportation had previously planned to close the bridge Monday to start a three-week maintenance project.
That work now is expected to be completed Oct. 18. The bridge carries U.S. 30 over the Des Plaines River.
A detour for U.S. 30 will start at Plainfield Road and Theodore Street and direct traffic on Theodore east to Broadway Street, then south to Ruby Street, then east over the Ruby bridge into downtown to Chicago Street and then south to Ottawa Street.
Jefferson Street eastbound traffic will be detoured at Raynor Avenue, then south to McDonough Street, then east over the McDonough bridge to Chicago Street and then north to Washington Street.

167th bridge over I-355 to close this month for repairs
The 167th Street bridge over Interstate 355 is scheduled to close for repairs later this month, and officials are making plans to divert the traffic, according to a press release.
The closure is scheduled for the week of Sept. 30, according to the release, and traffic is expected to be diverted to 163rd Street. About 6,350 cars use the bridge each day, the release said.
A similar closing of the 163rd Street bridge over I-355 is scheduled for after the work at 167th Street is complete.
The closing this month is scheduled to last for two weeks.
According to the release, eastbound traffic is going to be diverted north on Gougar Road to 163rd Street and then east to Cedar Road and then south to 167th Street. Westbound traffic will follow the same route in reverse, according to the release.
When the 167th Street bridge reopens, work is scheduled to begin on 163rd Street. When that project is ongoing, traffic will be routed along 159th Street. Eastbound motorists would head north on Farrell Road to 159th Street, east to Gougar Road and south to 163rd Street. The westbound traffic would follow the same route.
