Quick News: New Lenox looking for fire training items

The New Lenox Fire Protection District is requesting old, used cars and stoves for their training exercises and open house. The cars will be used for various training techniques, such as extrication and car fires. The stoves will be used for educational and stove or oven fire training purposes.

Plainfield Fire District hosting open house
The Plainfield Fire Protection District is hosting a Fire Prevention Week open house from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 5 at Fire Station 2, 23806 W. 135th St.
The event is free and includes demonstrations, a children’s firefighter challenge, safety seat inspections and displays.

Plainfield crow test positive for West Nile
A Plainfield crow tested positive for the West Nile Virus, according to the Will County Health Department.
The bird was recovered on Sept. 9 and sent to the University of Illinois Veterinary Laboratory for analysis, the news release said.
More than 65 birds across the state have tested positive for the virus, as have more than 2,240 mosquito samples.
Will County has not had a confirmed human case, but there have been 14 across the state and so far two people have died.
Last year, according to the news release, 290 human cases were reported, including 12 deaths.
