A stretch of 127th Street in Lemont was closed again Wednesday, as crews continued to clean up an oil leak caused when workers hit a Citgo pipeline earlier this week, according to Lemont police.
The road was closed since 3:30 p.m. Tuesday between Smith and New Avenue and was expected to remain closed through Wednesday, said police Commander Greg Smith. Traffic was being diverted to 135th Street.
AT&T spokeswoman Mollie West said a contractor hired to do work for the company struck a liquid hydrocarbon line on Monday, near 127th Street and High Road in Lemont.
“Although an underground utility survey was conducted prior to initiating this project, this particular pipeline was not identified,” West said in a prepared statement. “Thankfully, no injuries were reported. AT&T service in the Lemont area was not affected. We apologize for any inconvenience to motorists and residents of Lemont.”
