If you don’t mind a little wear and tear and have at least $1,000, a car can be bought from the Plainfield Police Department.
The village board has authorized the sale of a 2008 Chevrolet Impala with 99,205 miles, and a 2008 Ford Crown Victorua that has 103,798 miles for a minimum bid of $1,000 each. The cars will be sold Oct. 22 at the Arena Auto Public Auction, 200 Old Chicago Drive, on Illinois 53 south of Interstate 55 in Bolingbrook.
Police Chief John Konopek said the department regularly sells vehicles that are deemed no longer necessary or useful. Due to high mileage, Konopek said the squads are starting to incur high maintenance costs.
The Will County Governmental League sells the cars for the village for an administrative fee that comes out of the sale revenue.
The league is a non-profit organization of 30 municipalities and Will County. It provides technical assistance and services, as well as providing a forum for municipalities to discuss and resolve regional issues of municipal concern.
