JOLIET — The Bill Jacobs Auto Family will build a Kia dealership on Jefferson Street, developing the land across the street from its Chevrolet-Cadillac dealership, a Joliet city official said Tuesday.
The Bill Jacobs plan was listed during a presentation of assorted projects in progress during the first meeting of the city council’s economic development committee.
“That was really great news when we heard that the site is going to be reoccupied,” Dave Mackley, the city’s director of inspections, said after the meeting.
Mackley said ground could be broken on the project before the end of the year.
The auto dealer, which has owned the vacant property for years, has used it to display commercial trucks, used cars or other vehicles. A building there was torn down after Ron Tirapelli Ford relocated to a site on Jefferson Street in Shorewood.
Bill Jacobs has Kia vehicles at a dealership farther west on Jefferson Street, where Kia shares space with another auto brand.
