JOLIET TOWNSHIP — A man died after a welding explosion in his garage Thursday.
Witnesses said shortly after 2 p.m. the 52-year-old man was cutting the top off a 55-gallon drum inside an attached garage in the 300 block of Fairmont Avenue, according to Will County Sheriff’s police.
A substance in the barrel exploded, sending the lid into the victim’s head and causing severe burns, reports said.
Lockport Township firefighters rushed the man to Silver Cross Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 2:23 p.m. The victim’s identity had not been released by the Will County Coroner’s office as of Thursday evening.
