A Plainfield woman is suing a Joliet hospital and one of its employees, alleging that the employee had sex with her in a shower a year ago while she was a psychiatric patient.
In a lawsuit filed Friday in Will County Circuit Court, Courtney Payer claims that Maurice Nelson engaged in sex with her on Oct. 2, 2012, when he was an employee at Saint Joseph Medical Center.
At the time, Payer was a high-risk psychiatric patient “with clear and obvious diminished mental capacity,” according to the lawsuit. It says the incident has caused Payer to suffer psychological and emotional injuries, and the lawsuit seeks more than $50,000 on each of the two counts it contains.
Payer’s attorney, Frank Kasbohm, declined to comment on the suit. He said he did not know whether Nelson was a medically trained employee when the alleged incident occurred.
Hospital spokeswoman Katrina Wolcott also declined to comment on the lawsuit.
