JOLIET — A Joliet man has been charged in a Sept. 9 incident in which he fired a shotgun at a car containing three people, including a 5-year-old girl, authorities said.
A woman driving a Pontiac Sunfire about 3:50 p.m., with a man and the girl as passengers, saw Louis D. Jones, standing outside at Arthur Avenue and Woodruff Road, police Cmdr. Al Roechner said.
“The victims recognized Jones and saw him point a long rifle before buckshot struck the quarter panel and door and shattered the window,” Roechner said.
He said no one was injured, and the Sunfire sped away as Jones ran into a nearby residence. Jones was not inside when officers arrived, but a resident gave police permission to search the house, Roechner said.
“They found a shotgun wrapped in a towel, a Ruger 380 handgun and a small amount of cocaine,” he said. “The shells were the same kind as the two recovered from the scene outside.”
Police obtained an arrest warrant and tried to locate Jones, and Will County sheriff’s police arrested him Monday morning.
Jones, 26, of 1226 Arthur Ave., was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon.
Will County Jail records indicate that since 2009, Jones has been arrested on charges of sale and possession of illegal drugs and domestic battery.
